Taoyuan Lantern Festival kicks off on Wednesday
-
The Taoyuan City Government has announced traffic controls and free shuttle services for the 2026 Taoyuan Lantern Festival, urging visitors to use public transportation due to expected crowds.
The festival will run from Wednesday to March 8 at Hutoushan Innovation Hub, the Nankan Riverside Park, and Sanmin Sports Park, per CNA. Cars will be prohibited from entering or parking within the controlled zones, with increased towing enforcement in surrounding areas.
Drivers are advised to park at the New Yonghe Market parking lot, while scooter riders can use temporary parking areas at Qingxi Park, Taoyuan Senior High School, and the Veterans Affairs Council Vocational Training Center. The latter two are only available on weekends.
YouBike stations surround the festival sites, and 30 temporary docks will be added at the Qingxi 2nd Road station, with additional redistribution in nearby areas. To ensure crowd safety, cycling is prohibited in core festival zones, including Hutoushan Innovation Hub, Sanmin Sports Park, First Riverside Park, and the Nankan Creek Riverbank Bike Trail, and visitors are asked to walk their bicycles through these areas.
The city will operate two free shuttle routes: the Red Line between Taoyuan Railway Station and Guiji Riverside Park, and the Blue Line between New Yonghe Market and Hutoushan Innovation Hub. Shuttle frequency will be adjusted based on crowd levels, and visitors are encouraged to prioritize public transportation.
Detailed event information is available on the official 2026 Taoyuan Lantern Festival website. Traffic and transport measures will be adjusted as needed, and visitors are asked to follow on-site guidance.
