Traffic dilemma: Yield to pedestrian or to ambulance?
-
Here’s a traffic dilemma. A car driver recently found himself in a difficult situation on the road. An ambulance was approaching from behind, but the cars in front didn’t move out of the way. It turns out they were waiting for a pedestrian to cross the road. So who’s at fault? Let’s hear from a lawyer.

Pedestrians crossing the road should have left the crosswalk. The driver couldn’t yield to the ambulance because there was a pedestrian, so the driver wouldn’t be penalized. Ultimately, the one to be held responsible for that is the pedestrian.
Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians can be fined NT$6,000, but in this case, the pedestrian could be fined NT$500 for failing to yield to an ambulance. If the obstruction leads to serious injury or death, the pedestrian could be held criminally liable for negligence and could also face civil compensation claims.Source from:Formosa News
