Electric bicycles must now have license plate and insurance
-
New regulations for electric bicycles have been in effect since Nov. 30, 2022 and will be enforced starting on Nov. 30 this year. The regulations stipulate that owners of electric bicycles must apply for a license plate and purchase insurance for them. They will be fined if they fail to do so by Nov. 29.
Honking the horn and rolling the throttle, this electric bicycle is being inspected for compliance to regulation. It passes and now has a license plate in white with green lettering. Owners of electric bicycles must get a license plate by the end of November.

It’s more assuring for us. Now it’s up to what the government decides and we’ll follow suit.

I must have a license plate by the end of November, so I thought to apply as soon as possible.
Starting from Nov. 30, riders of electric bicycles without a license plate will be fined NT$1,200 if caught on the road. If the rider breaches a traffic law and the vehicle is found without a mandatory insurance, they’ll be fined at least NT$750.
According to the Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office, last year only 4,691 electric bicycle license plates were issued. As of Oct. 6 this year that number has increased to 7,507, a 60% increase compared to the entire year of 2023.

The vehicle must meet standards before it can be sold on the market. So as long as people have purchased an electric bicycle that meets the standards, all they have to do is to bring relevant documents and proof of insurance, then they’ll receive a license plate form the motor vehicles office, and then they can put on the license plate.
In the future vehicle dealers will assist in license plate application. But when the owner goes to pick up the license plate, they must bring the certificate of conformity, receipt of purchase, proof of insurance, ID and personal seal. In that case, make sure you have all these documents ready.Source from:Formosa News
