Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan to introduce YouBike penalty system
-
YouBike riders, beware. A new penalty system starts Monday in Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan. Cyclists will be handed penalty points for violations, such as ignoring traffic lights, riding on sidewalks, and failing to yield to pedestrians. Getting three points in a year results in a 14-day suspension, while seven points a year results in a one-year ban. Cycling under the influence of alcohol could lead to a suspension of two years.
To avoid the blazing sun, this cyclist rides up on the sidewalk, endangering pedestrians.
Riding in a hurry, this cyclist fails to yield to pedestrians. Such infractions will soon be subject to penalties. In Taipei, YouBike accident casualties have gone up for two straight years. From this January to May alone, there have been 562 deaths and injuries involving YouBikes.Source:FORMOSA NEWS
